The only time we had a real tree, it amazingly stayed green from the end of Nov until mid-spring. It was set on the back porch in January and the birds used it to nest in out of the elements.

As long as you keep it watered, you should be ok to get one now if you want. It is dead though the minute that's cut from its roots. But you can keep it green for a period of time.

The only trees that are spraypainted are the white ones. The green trees are cut fresh from the farms so there is no reason to paint them.

As long as you would stay alive with your head cut off! The tree is dead as soon as it is cut. How long it will stay GREEN depends on the environment it is placed in. If it is kept cool and watered, it may last for 3 or 4 weeks. If it got dry and hot at the tree lot, it may only last a couple of days after you get it home.

Until they are cut. After that, they begin to dry out and become a fire hazard. They stay green because they are spray painted. If it was cut when you bought it, it was already dead. Many people dig up a tree, put it in a wash tub, or some such thing and then replant it after Christmas.

Once you cut the tree down it's dead. Use lots of water in the stand and check daily. Get a fake tree and avoid the hassle.
