I lost $100 worth of discus to a bad heater, personally I would get that thing out of the tank right now and go buy another one. They will be fine without a heater for the time it takes you to go to the store and back.

Follow the directions on the heater to a T when you put it in the tank. Do not plug it in right away, let it set for a while so the thermostat in the heater adjusts itself to the water temp.

A 200 watt heater is a little big for a 29 too. You want to have 3-5 watts per gallon of water. In a smaller tank 3 wpg, in a bigger tank, 5 wpg.

BTW, the wild fluctuations in temperature are causing untold stress on your fish. Stress being one of the major factors in compromising the fish's immune system. Dose them with Stress Coat and get a new heater ASAP. Good luck.

I suspect your heater is going bad, I had that happen once, it cooked all the fish by the time I got home. Really sucked. And my heater was only about 6 months old.

Try taking the heater out for 24 hours, if the tempreture continues to change a lot you know it is the heater. If it doesn't and just gets lower, replace the heater.

it is loopy communicate. I shop my bass in a guitar case the place it belongs. If that's a stand-up bass you could need an extremely extensive aquarium, and if an electric bass guitar, water gets into the energetic electonics and fry it once you plug it in ... ... plus, it rusts the strings.

It might be your thermometer or heater. Check the water temperature by feel. If it says 90 and it doesn't feel hot, it might be your temperature guage.
