They are not friends. This is a carefully orchestrated public relations campaign designed to change Britney's image to the percieved "cool" of the times. Britney is dangerously close to becoming some 90's - 2000 trivia, and her handlers know it. This is how celebrity culture works. You shouldn't be paying attention to these people anyway. They use you for your money and handle the public like a farmer herds sheep.

I have no problem with them being friends. I just don't think that Britney should be seen out partying in Vegas with Paris when she just filed for divorce has a year old and 2 month old baby at at home.

I guess, as long as neither one gives the other one love life advice. And as long as Britney doesn't let Paris babysit her kids. If they just stick to shopping and being cute little princesses, I think they'd get along fine. Britney would be like "I'm Hot!" and Paris would just say "That's Hot!". It's a friendship match made in heaven....

I think people need to spend their time occupying themselves with something useful like how to cure cancer, or stop poverty, or animal abuse, who gives a **** if paris hilton and britney spears are friends, life is too short to worry about that.
