it used to be amusing. Not hillarious like higher forms of animation like south park or family guy.
It used to be good but it sucks now because they have changed it into a "family freindly sitcom".
The simpsons deserves a place in cartoon history as paving the way for much better animated shows that followed and further pushed the envelope like:
Beavis and butt head
south park
family guy
american dad
The simpsons was also the first cartoon since the flintstones to be aired on prime time.
It deserves its place, but trying to keep alive a dead horse is more pathetic than beating it. Simpsons was amusing, it had a good run, but its over and the next generation has surpassed them.
Truth is that one of the reasons why south park stays on top is because of its very quick production time, what is it they can turn around an entire episode in about a week because they retain total creative control over it and do most of the show themselves. Thus allowing them to comment or create a quick show that is relevant with current events before the events get stale. No show with longer production times can compete with that.

No - they just have a different sense of humour to you.
It's like I don't think Seinfeld is at all funny. Can sit through episode after episode without finding a single thing to laugh about.
And how about the movie "Pulp Fiction" - funniest movie I have ever seen. Laughed so much I had a belly ache and slid off my seat. No one else in the entire cinema was laughing though??

It's a bit hit and miss like any long running series for me. Sometimes it's funny but sometimes it seems like I'm watching a slightly different version of another episode. I like it generally though. People who say it's just a cartoon probably just don't like that kind of humour. I 'get' Ricki Gervais but I think he's about as funny a stepping in dog poo.

Now I suppose you'd say the same thing about "South Park", right?
I think you're the one who seems a bit thick. These shows are metaphors for our twisted reality, next time you watch one, try and look at what they're /really/ trying to say. Don't just pay attention to the racist jokes, the dead-people gags and presidential thingamahoochies, look under the potty humor and actually think. Maybe you'll learn something about life. ^^

It's been on far too long. It is an intelligent cartoon, with all it's post-modern humour, but so what. I wish they'd kill off Homer as well lol. But I agree, it's great for showing a REAL American family.

Personlly i love the simpsons, infact it's just come on the tv now. But everybody has their own individual sense of humour, so there are bound to be some people who will not find it funny.

Pretty much! The humour is very British!
As Matt Groening was a Monty python fan
I like the way it rips the American family to pieces LOL

yeah, and they think admitting they like a cartoon and find it intelligent and funny would make them immature. they reckon they're superior to cartoons

anyone who doesn't get it must have a brain the size of a pea, and no sense of humor whatsoever because it's bloody hilarious.
