I'll be working this Christmas on a gas platform in the North Sea.
Out on the 21st back in on the 28th. 8 x 12 hour shifts.
we are busy trying to down man all non essential persons so we should be down to 13 people on board.
Provided the lights stay on it should be OK.
Will miss the wife and kids though over the holiday, that's the worst bit!

I don't dread it, even though we don't have much money to spend this year. I wish people would stop focusing so much on gift giving. It's nice, but it's more important to be with friends and family, and enjoy the time together. That's what it's about! Try to focus on what's good in your life, and the things you're thankful for. I'll bet you'll feel better! I also have some cds with hilarious Christmas songs that help me get in the right frame of mind. I recommend any of the Bob Rivers Christmas albums. Cheer up, and have a very merry Christmas! :)

I've just been to a Festival of Lights. There was a float with Christmas Carols wafting from it and I felt like crying. For me, Christmas is a highly emotional time of the year because I'm away from my family and this is the time of year I realise how much I miss them all. I love watching children approach Father Christmas with that 'You look like Santa....but you still look scary.....' expression on their faces. I love the ribbons and decorations in the shops, in short, I love the build up to Christmas.
And Christmas Day? It goes past so fast. One minute you're getting up and suddenly, it's time for bed! I've never felt it an anti climax, but I sometimes feel as though I've missed out on something huge.

yes in a way i am. far too many people cooped up in one house for a day is not my idea of fun, especially when your dad is snoring on the sofa, your nan is ruining the dinner and various nieces and nephews are smashing my new presents. not to mention my mums lumpy gravy!
but i like the present giving and recieving part, and going down the pub for a xmas drink. christmas only comes once a year so enjoy it the best you can!

Are you missing anyone this year - loved ones? It's still early in the season...sometimes you just have to wait a bit to let it sink in. Try pushing yourself along by getting out and doing something to make you feel good. Drive through lighted displays, go to church, give of yourself to charitys...
I'm just not looking forward to the nine hours of driving with two kids in the car.

I love Christmas but at 23 and 3 kids my hubby and I ust enjoy buying and not receiving, which makes it hard for our parents who still wanna buy things for us. I just get so much enjoyment out of seeing my kids opening their gifts. and all the people I buy for, for that matter. I wish I had more time, it seems to havev snuck up on me this year though.. Happy Holidays anyway..

To a degree, I agree with you. The older I get the more of a let down it is. I enjoy my kid's enthusiasm but the overall spirit is gone....not out of me but out of the world. It is all about how much to spend and how much to get. No one thinks about the ultimate gift that God had given us this time of year. Christ has been pushed aside and without Him we feel empty and 'let down'. This year I am putting forth an effort to bring Christ back to CHRISTmas!

not really, just don't make unrealistic expections for your Christmas season and you won't get let down. Chose to be happy and you probably will be. Try remembering what it was that you loved about Christmas and focus on doing that.

Dread it....we should only be so happy we can celebrate it...those of us who can. I think some of us are luckier than we realize. It really depends on the circumstsances that make it a let down and then try to find the brighter side.
When life gives you lemons make lemonade my friend!
