You have been hearing it everywhere for the last few years it is not "PC" to say "Merry Christmas" anymore. Now we are uttering "seasons greetings" or some other suitable equivelant.
Who here thinks that people need to lighten up a little bit? This social shift has come about to ensure that we do not offend "non-christans". I just read of a school in spain who "cancelled Christmas" so "non-christan" students were not offended. I personally am not a Christian and am fine with Christmas. In fact, I love it. Not the presents and food (all beit nice) but the idea of bringing family and friends together.
Who here really is offended by Christmas. Why? It is no form of persicution, or a jab at your faith. Don't you remember as a child how wonderful the season was? There is a woman, in the mid-west who is being fined $1,000 for having wreath shaped like a peace sign on her door. Don't you think that is taking it a little far? What ever happened to freedom of religion, speech, expresion

The way our society is going, nobody will be able to sneeze without offending somebody.
That will be a $500 fine please....

It's not the word, it's the assumption that everyone is just like you. I personally don't find it offensive when it comes from an individual, but I take exception to schools or stores plastering it all over their walls. It excludes certain segments of the society and implies that the Christians are the only people celebrating in December.
I am not Christian. When someone wishes me a Merry Christmas, I usually respond by wishing them a Happy Solstice. If you're willing to accept the sentiment of that wish, then say what you want. But if you find it offensive on some level, then stop and think about the people who are not Christian, and what they feel when you wish them a Merry Christmas.

I live in such a mixed area that I would really look like an idiot if I said "Merry Christmas" to everyone. There are lots of Orthodox Jews and people from the Middle East here but it's also heavily Hispanic and Italian. Sometimes it's really obvious they aren't Christian so I don't see why I'd wish them a Merry X-mas. It's the same reason I don't run around on the street saying 'hello' to every person I see. If I don't know them I leave them alone. It's more about respecting a person's privacy and not putting them on the spot.
For me, it's not always about offending someone because of their religion. Some people hate holidays and get depressed around X-mas. I get sad sometimes because it just reminds me that most of my family is dead. You can't do anything after Thanksgiving in this country without being reminded of X-mas. I don't feel the need to add to that. Sometimes I'll say it if the person is wearing a sweater with a big picture of Santa on it or something but other than that, it's not a big deal to just leave it alone.
I do think that wreath story sounds insane and that is taking it too far. Private decorations, clothing, etc. shouldn't be an issue. Everyone should be able to do that stuff when it comes to any holiday.

I think you are absolutely right!! I don't see why saying "Merry Christmas" is offensive, even if you are a non-Christian. Get this- I work as a photographer at the mall for kids' pictures with Santa every year, and last year I got in trouble with the manager for saying "Merry Christmas" to a customer when I handed him his kid's picture. I mean, he's in line to see SANTA- what holiday do you THINK he celebrates??? And that's what I told my manager too, but she was just all, "We have to be politically correct." So now I'm stuck saying "Have a happy holiday," which is so stupid, because we all know what holiday we're talking about. Honestly, I've never even met a person who's offended by "Merry Christmas," and I have a lot of non-Christian friends. I can see where saying something like, "May Christ's blessings be with you," or something like that could potentially rub people the wrong way, but saying "Merry Christmas" seems so benign. I think we're finally moving back towards Merry Christmas as a greeting, though, because look at the Target ads this year- they say "Merry Christmas," not "Season's Greetings," or "Happy holidays." This year I think I'll avoid the controversy and just tell people Happy HanuKwanzMas, just to cover all my bases...

It has gotten out of hand. Why can't everybody just have good cheer and wish Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukah or Happy whatever instead of no one being able to? This world is getting ridiculous about being politically correct. I used to work retail, in fact, I was a front end supervisor. I used to say Merry Christmas to people anyway. I got many more positive responses than negative ones for saying it. It's a free country, I thought, I can say what I want.

I think in this day and age, we are becoming too sensitive about certain issues and with all the frivolous lawsuits going around, people are afraid to offend anybody. Your coffee's too hot- let it cool down, McDonald's making you fat- don't eat there, seriously, it's getting out of control.
Christmas is technically a christian holiday, but through the years it has become secularized so much that it really has become a day of family and giving. Growing up I knew plenty of people who were not christian and celebrated the holiday, it's a time for everyone.
I don't believe it should be offending, our Jewish friends wish us Happy Hanukkah and I appreciate the well wishes, that's what they are, wishes that everyone has a good time during the holiday, whatever they celebrate.
Best wishes. ;)

Yes its offensive!
The prices and the loss of cheer and goodwill. People fighting over an object that the store sells millions of. No one will let you into traffic because you might just get there one car ahead of them. And then to top it off you cant even wish someone Merry Christmas without fear of a lawsuit. I think we all have turned into Scrooge. We are so worried about what people think instead of what it means to celebrate the holidays. No matter what religion you are or what holiday you celebrate!

I am definitely not offended by Christmas and I agree that people DO need to lighten up. It's a happy time of year, whether you celebrate it or not. Doesn't meant that they are trying to offend you, they are simply trying to send warm wishes.
Get over it people, and Merry Christmas!

I think if you don't believe in Christ you shouldn't celebrate Christmas. Call it something else like St. Nickmas. It's offensive to Christians like me when others want us to STOP putting religion into Christmas. It was supposed to be a religious holyday until the retail world got ahold of it.
What the hell is "Merry X-mas"?

I have not heard it anywhere but here on Yahoo answers. The only people mad are christian folks that have an issue with the fact that there are other holidays and some stores wanted to acknowledge them all instead of just one.
