Hey, we do the Pirate Exchange thingy.
All participants place their gifts in the playing area. Numbers are then drawn according to how many are playing. The first person selects a gift and opens it. The Second person can Pirate the 1st person's gift, mind you it's opened, so they know what it is, or second person can choose one out of the playing area. The 3rd person can choose #2's gift or #1's gift or the playing area section. To prevent the circle from repeating, there has to be set a limit of how many times a gift can be "pirated". This continues until everyone receives a gift.

Is there actually a person you would WANT to buy for? I don't know many jobs and fellow employees where people like each other and know each other well enough to know what to buy the other anyway. I think it is a stupid thing to do anyway. I think it would be a lot more fun if it was a gag gift swap :)

I use to be that person too. Now we all bring a gift, put a number on it and whoever draws that number, gets that gift.

yeah, i hate Secret Santas and swapping. you never get a friend or someone fun to shop for. i recommend gag gifts. that way you can get something fun, even mildly offensive, and say it's just a joke.

I dont' particiapte in those anymore. The morale at my job sucks, there's no teamwork ... and one year I pulled someone's name who is rude to me. Last year, someone didn't bring a gift for the person whose name they drew.

Yep...it seems like it always works out that way for me too!! I just look at it as an adventure and try to make the best of it and use my imagination.
hold out for next year maybe the curse will be lifted!!

in our office we do this and it's always fine, maybe because we all get on well with each other and everyone likes each other! although we put names in a cup and each person takes a name - if you pick your own name then we try again....

That's why I don't sign up anymore. I'm better off not wasting my money and time on something nice for someone I don't even like and than turn around to get a of crap from someone I don't even like.
