Snowflakes are a good decoration. I'll do some checking, though. Other ideas would be a gingerbread house or cookie theme, or one could use poinsettias or holly, that's pretty non-secular, just wintry.

Is a snowy theme just too obvious? Just off the top of my head:

* winter animals - those hibernating, underground and/or ones that turn white? or cardnials - the red birds look beautiful in the snw.

* the new year / resolutions?

* gifts? most winter holidays exchange, don't they?

* pine trees?

What kind of space are you decorating? I have funkier ideas - but the ones for a sales window would be a lot different than the ones for a school bulletin board.

Go with the old fashion Christmas theme! Tree with no lights, only berries, fruits, popcorn strings, and bows. If possible have a fireplace with a roaring fire and stockings hung from the mantle with care.
Just a good old fashion, down home Christmas... like maybe when your parents were children!

How about using a snowman theme? You can make them yourself using sytrofoam balls attached with toothpicks and a little glue and decorate them with googly eyes, felt, buttons etc.
Or you can make them with white fleece and fiberfill for stuffing. Then decorate as you wish. You could set them up on white batting and use a little of the fiberfill for "snow". There are tons of winter ideas.

Garland strung with lights and traditional round ornaments is always a festive decoration. You could even keep with a single color scheme for it to look more uniform.
