OK OK OK... I've heard about the sitting up part, but not the screaming part! I do not remember my source, but I have read that it is possible for a body to "sit up" during cremation. I'm sure I've read it in a book concerning forensic science, the body farm, or something similar.. I'll have to think on that! When I remember, I will look it up and let you know what causes it.

People do not die with oxygen in their lungs - at least not in the amount it would take to scream. When people die, their final breath is an exhale. That's the breathing muscles "natural" state. In other words, you have to "work" to inhale. Exhaling is the release of the muscles.

And why would escaping air cause a body to sit up?

No, the oxygen usually escapes in a death groan (I'm not sure what these are technically called, but after someone dies you can hear them groan sometimes) pretty soon after death.

There is no chance a dead person will sit up and scream.

no you dont. You lose the remaining air in your body while you in the morge, or at least within the firth few day after death. This is usually in the form of odd moaning, burping and even farting.

Another reason is that you musels use electial signals to make them move, so unless your cremated by 100,000,000,000 volt current, you dont move

No that it not true. From the time you die until you are cremated you "moam" and make noises as the remaining air seeps out but you DO NOT sit up and scream. That would require muscle action and they are not working anymore.

No. You don't. By the time everything is completed...autopsy, funeral, etc etc, all air is pretty much eliminated. But i have heard about the body's muscles stiffening due to rigor mortise and that can cause the body to jerk and or sit up. Its just muscle spasms.

I have never heard of that..I would hate to think they do..sure the oxygen has to be released but you have to use your vocal cords to make that screaming sound..So I would say no it doesn't happen ..but I may be wrong..But I don't think I am.

No, it's not true.
"air" (not oxygen, air is mostly nitrogen) in your lungs when heated may cause some noise as it escapes, but it can't make a dead body "sit up."
Myth.
