i live in a developing country that has been in an incessant civil war. Due to the goverment's priorities being focused on the war, the state of poverty has begun to increase. From what i see, i see that there are more old and frail people on the roads and it aches me to see them because they are obviously too weak to care for themselves.
whenever possible i buy them some food or give them some money. i have realised that due to inflation it is pretty useless giving them spare change, so i give them a considerable amount in order to buy atleast one meal.
I just don't understand how people have become so selfish and materialistic that they don't realise that there are so many poor people suffering. People waste so much of money on useless things and i must say i too am not a saint. i come from a very well off family but my parents have taught me to care for the less fortunate as well.
what can we do? what can YOU do? please, let's try and make a difference
thank you in adv

If you are "well-off" you already have an advantage---the means to bring this to other's attention in the world. Write the United Nations, write Oprah, find others around you and form a team to brainstorm ideas about solving your country's poverty, one person at a time. Find one family to adopt in your area and help them any way that you can. YOU have a voice and free-will, so do good deeds and soon it will pay forward to others. Realizing that you are materialistic and "not a saint" means that you have a conscience and are therefore, a person of worth. Do something with it.

Try and get out idiot president to stop wasting billions soon to be trillions of tax payers dollars on Iraq... and get him to help those in our country or donate some of that money to third world countries.
