What does the word Tafiti mean? Is it Swahili?

Swahili is "alive in Tanzania, dead in Kenya & buried in Uganda" according to one Tanzanian I know. In general, those are the main Swahili-speaking countries. However, in the surrounding countries, many natives of the border speak Swahili (Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Sudan, etc.).

Tafiti is related to the verb -tafuta which means to look for or search. As a verb, -tafiti can mean to inquire, to research, to search for & many related definitions based on the context in which the verb is found. Remember, though, in the written language, tafiti is generally preceeded by prefixes (& infixes) which may make the word less recognizable.

Enjoy the language! Isn't it fun!?
