If your cars ventilation system is set to recirculate the cabin air your window will fog up faster than normal, you create a lot of excess moisture when you breathe. Make sure it is set to take in air from the outside, there are only two settings on this control. Both settings usually have a little picture. Recirculate shows the car with a circular arrow going around the inside of the car. Fresh shows the car with a straight arrow coming in towards the bottom of the windshield. Also if your car is leaking water into the cabin or even the trunk your windows will fog up faster than normal.

HI,,, Looks like you have most of the answers just put everyone's together and you have it covered....

I ask the question: How long have you owned this car is this the 1st winter or cool season you driven it?

Check the Heater Core... Is the floor board on the passenger side wet or greasie feelin??? Do you smell or Taste something very sweet in the air while driving??? Check your Coolant/Anti-Freeze level is it low or full??? Like the other people stated already check this 1st.... If heater core is OK go to next step.

Check the controls and Open up to the outside air more offen. The small area you sit in in a 91 Cavalier will keep in all moisture from your breath inside the car ad that to the cool temp out side and your windows Fog up... Called Steaming up the windows if 2 people are in there...

If everything else is OK, Just clean the Day to Day film off the inside of the windows. If you or someone else smokes in the car the film might be pretty thick... Use News Paper and Glass cleaner to get it off and clean... And Open fresh air more often..

Also if the heat Core is going out engine temp might start getting hotter as the leak gets worst. Because its part of the engine coolant system. Thats another reason to check it 1st...

Good Luck

Defroster's job is to melt the ice outside the glass and clear the fog inside. Some SUV's and Minivans have the optional de-icer grid which is a small defroster.

To remove the fog, you have to put the car on "dehumidifier mode", it is more efficient if the engine is at full operating temperature. Select the knob all the way to HOT, air in FRESH AIR mode (not recirculating mode), air-conditioner ON (it has the function of removing water in the air). In a few minutes, the fog is gone, then adjust the temperature to your comfort level. Yes, you can use warm air and air-conditioner at the same time. Instructions of these can be found in every Owner's Manual in every vehicle.

Another tip is, clean the inside glass of the car (vehicle) with any kind of glass cleaner. If your a car enthusiast like me, you can apply Rain-x anti-fog on the inside glass of the car.

Lets hear it for the guy that said heater core!
Heater cores get small leaks that cover the outside of them with moisture. The a/c and heater share the same air passages under the dash and any air flow will pick up this moisture and move it to the windshield.
Even with everything off the blower motor still runs on a very slow speed for cabin ventilation (fed regulation) and diverts a slight amount of air to the glass (again fed reg) so even with the heater or a/c off you will have the problem.
If you run your finger over it you will see that it is slimy, feels like coolant.
You can by pass the heater hoses to verify this, (or pinch them off) You will have to run the car long enough to dissapate any residual on the core.

It happens more often when a car, or vehicle has an A/C system in it. Hard to explain why it does, but it does. Just turn on the defrost, and of course it'd go away for a while.
