Great question!

I say - take the fetus out. If it is viable and can live on its own, save it. If not, then that's unfortunate.

Under my solution, the woman gets to "control her body" but not "kill a baby." We don't force women to gestate a pregnancy, but we also don't kill people just because they are "unwanted."

King Solomon couldn't do any better (pun intended)!

Problem solved!

Good question!

I think prosecuting anyone participating in a late-term abortion (unless, of course, it is medically justified) would be a good start. Limit the number of abortions someone can have - it was never intended to be a method of birth control. Find a way to hold men as 100% accountable for a pregnancy - maybe a tattoo on their forehead? Honestly, I don't think a compromise will ever happen. If you feel it's murder (and let's be honest - call it what you want, but it IS killing a baby) you will never concede that point. Conversely, if you are stridently pro-choice, you will never accept any limitations on abortion. But it's still a great question.

A reasonable compromise would look like this:

Any woman who wants to have an abortion up to 12 weeks can do so. Abortions past 12 weeks are limited to cases of rape or incest, the life of the mother being in danger, or deformities in the fetus.
Anyone who doesn't agree with abortion agrees that the highest court in the land has ruled that, under the conditions above, it is a constitutional right for a woman to choose whether or not she wants to have an abortion, and they abide by that decision of supreme law in the US and stop trying to trample other people's consitutional rights.

Oh, wait -- that's exactly what we have now! All except for the part about anti-abortion nuts agreeing not to trample on other people's constitutionally guaranteed rights...

There can't be a compromise. One group wants it made illegal because they feel it is murder. A compromise would be no abortions after the first tri mester unless medically needed for the life of the mother. A few conservatives on this site have mentioned that and it makes sense. Also I know people feel like it is murder,so maybe part of the requirement before getting an abortion would be to sit down with someone and discuss other options. There are tons of people who want babies, and to have them aborted because they are unwanted shouldnt happen.

You got some great answers I'm really surprised.. usually people just put "It should be illegal, it's Murder"... I agree with the people saying about no abortion after 12 weeks except in the cases of rape, incest, deformities to the fetus, and to save the mother... While I agree that at some part the fetus is a baby.. at less than 12 weeks, it's a better compromise than a new born baby going in a dumpster, or a baby that may not survive because he/she is addicted to crack or whatever else.. I also think that people that have abortions for convenience should sit and have to talk to someone about their options such as adoption and make women understand that there are people out there willing to pay them if they keep their baby and give it up for adoption

I don't know if a compromise is possible. But, I think we need to develop a better focus on birth control, sex education needs to be revamped, and oh boy am I going to get thumbs down for this one: I really think that the medical records of women seeking abortions should have to be perused by the doctor performing the abortion. If repeated abortions are part of the women's pattern, then she should be required to take part in a mandatory birth control class. I do not find the idea of abortion offensive in itself, but I do find it repulsive when women use it like birth control, and I have known some who do exactly that.

That is hard to imagine. Pro-life advocates who believe it is human life have, in my opinion as one, no "wiggle room" in compromise. If we believe it is human life, at what point do we say it is ok to kill the life? I personally believe in no exception to a ban. Choice advocates have plenty of area to compromise: That underage girls can get an abortion without parental consent but can't get an aspirin or a roough period borders on the absurd.

Unfortunately, someone who thinks that abortion is murder and baby killing will never compromise with someone who thinks differently. Unless they realize that the soul enters the body at birth when god gives the "breath of life" just like he did with Adam.

Edit: So no abortions when feutus can breathe of it's own.

Gay men can get abortions...?

There will be no compromise. Theres too much to disagree about to actually compromise.

Have a preprocedure interview for approval, kinda like for Gastro bypass. If the abortion is for a legit reason like rape or a medical reason, then consider the applicant. If it's some ditsy teenager who just didn't think it could happen to her... then hand her a brochure for adoption.

Make it difficult to get an abortion after 10 or 12 weeks. More funding or new programs for poor women and their newborns, more contraceptive education.
