That's because they're sending out a subliminal message, on the surface they are red meaning stop, red and amber together meaning get ready, then green meaning proceed if the way ahead is clear, amber on it's own meaning screech to a halt as it's going to turn red or race to get through them before they turn red.

ok from i am told if you stop on the white line it will make the light change faster.. i have tried it and it seems to work..also when the light turns yellow you got about 30 sec before it turns red

Well they only come on when you least expect it to annoy the cr@p out of you.. well it's what I like to think!

Try counting how long they stay red for then how long they stay green for :P

It's easy.
Green means Go.
Orange means Go faster.
Red means You're too slow.
