I see a lot of young people on here asking for answers on their homework. I see a lot more young people readily providing answers.

My question is aimed at these people: Why do you come here for answers? How do you know the answers can be trusted? Do you realize teachers consider this cheating, and you can get in trouble for it?

There is a really big difference between coming here for help and getting answers.

Cheating IS bad. I'm a college instructor. I fight it every week even at the adult level. It negatively impacts your integrity, and it insults your instructor and classmates.

Research doesn't mean having the answers handed to you. It means collecting information to come to your own conclusions.

I'm beginning to realize that if the students don't understand what cheating and research really are, that either they aren't listening in class, or their teachers are really doing them a disservice.

If you are one of these students, TELL YOUR TEACHER to clarify it for you. You should know what cheating is before you get to college!

its a enormous waste of time, trying to look up answers on your own,if you dont know/ dont understand the subject...i try to answer step by step simply so that these kids are spared beating their heads against a wall....i know most kids dont get personalised attention, or maybe simply shy to admit they dont know.....here, online, its anonymous and they arent under pressure of being judged..so they ask questions freely, sometimes even the questions that seem silly, questions they wouldn't ask otherwise....

I guess it is cheating. But is it THAT bad? Even by getting the answers here...they actually recieve some instruction and many answers are thorough and will probably actually help. If I were a teacher, I'd have no problem with a student coming here if he attempted the problem him/herself first. If he really cant solve it, then coming here is almost like asking a tutor.

Its better than what I did in high school. Just copy off my friends....not learning a thing.

That bothers me too. I'm hardly a young person, but I am finishing up my M.A., and have asked for research tips, but I'll do my own work! I worked as a T.A., and I caught a couple of students cheating. It's no fun for either the student or the teacher. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll be curious to see the answers you get.

I don't mind helping the kids on here getting the answer, but it bothers me when people actually tell the answers.
