Clean it with vinegar & water...excellent cleaner, natural, no toxins, and removes odor (vinegar aroma dissipates in a short period of time), no carpet discoloration or damage.

I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot almost boiling water (from a kettle) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time, (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet).
If the stain is still visible than try putting Dawn dishwashing liquid which is a mild soap (4 or 5 drops into one cup of water) or carpet spotter. Dampen the spot letting it soak on the stain for about 5 minutes and repeat step one. After this you should rinse the area again with the wet vac and hot water.
Please be careful with what product you uses (neutral PH carpet cleaning solution is best). Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet.

I don't mean to offend, but you might try looking at a pet store for a product like Nature's Miracle or Fresh N Clean. They are meant to deodorize and remove biological stains, and are safe for use around pets, so they are probably safe for use around babies, too. It wouldn't hurt to rent a shop vac to suck all the water and cleaning solution out of the carpet, and it will help get it cleaner, too. If you are worried about chemicals around the baby (and you should be), then after you clean the stains, you can put water on them and vacuum that up a few times to minimize the residue left. Good Luck!!

Never use products like Resolve. They actually can bind many stains to the carpet fibers and they will never come clean! A diluted vinegar solution should work perfectly, but always test in a small area to see how it reacts with the carpet dyes. Always blot, never rub.

If you have a fence or pick up truck and a pistol grip for your garden hose you are set. Drape the rug over the fence/ truck, spray with Resolve, let it sit, then spray the dickens out of the spot with the pistol grip (set to stream). Allow to air dry. OR take it to a car wash and power blast it clean. Air dry of course.

if the rug is small enough, throw it into a washer. If not, I don't believe the cleaning agents are harmful to babies or pets. I believe bacteria from the stain would be more harmful.
