I wonder... what did people do when we didn't have scissors to cut umbilical cords? Did the mother have to chew it through like animals have to do? According to the theory of evolution we did not always know how to use tools (like a sharp rock).

Does anyone know if anything is documented?

From what I understand, the placenta will fall out with the umbillical cord with it. I'm pretty sure though people knew how to cut things such as umbillical cords with our without tools. Earlier on they would have most likely chewed through it or just allowed it to be on the baby till it fell off. If they were not intelligent enough to figure out how to use a rock, most likely they would not know exactly what to do to the cord so I'm sure it varied from group to group. There really isn't anything documented other than things from speculation because historians would not be able to find a tool to prove what they did this early on and there are no pictographs depicting the umbillical cord being cut off on any cave walls. Good question :)

Well first off evolution is false so there's no need to worry about what "cavemen" were doing back then.

I'm sure the first people had some sort of tool and knew how to cut it or they just left it on and waited for it to fall off on it's own.

Well, I suppose they could have practiced "lotus birth" and waited for it to dry up and fall off on it's own.
