Remember also that Brazil was the home of the 1973 Kitten Vampire scare, as well as supposedly being host to the infamous haunted kittens Bootsie, Snowball, and Mittens, Mittens being the kitten also known as the Ghostly Meow.

This according to the Hamilton-Neilsen report submitted to congress in July of 2002. the study which included feline history from 33 reporting nations encompassed what is to be considered the most extensive ever performed on this subject.
The study took two and one half years of very detailed research into situations where paper files had been stored in less than satisfactory conditions of third world countries. During the course of the study conditions often prevented researchers from coming to proper conclusions and many determined that the whole computation of facts was a bunch of poo poo as is this answer.
