In my job and in my personal life, I research as much is required to excel. On Answers, I usually just put down whatever pops into my head at the moment or what strikes me as funny. There are questions that I take seriously, and I answer them to the best of my ability with my insight and sincerity.
And yes, I read question details before I answer.

I always read the details. The only problem is many of the details are no longer researchable. Names have been changed to protect the guilty and erase the possibilities that something could be wrong. At any rate, I have researched this question well and know that my best answer is probably not what you are looking for but there is no harm trying.

Well, if it's for personal stuff, I keep reading until I get bored with it.
If it's for something else, I do it until I have everything to support what I'm trying to say. But I always try and get all my ideas on the page first. I'd rather research something specific when writing a researched piece than start out with a broad topic.

If it's a topic that I'm interested in and plan to use the knowledge for, then very well.
If it's not a topic I'm interested in, very little, as that I'm not going to try to argue, discuss or otherwise make a fool of myself about something I don't know or care about.

I try my hardest to find out all the information I can before I open my mouth or write about a subject, wouldn't want to look foolish.

Enough to get the info I need. I get A's on all my research papers in college and I research good, relyable sites.

We're studying this is in advanced mathamatics and psychology. Most things need to be researched thouroughly, like you need to know your 99.995% likely to be right. For drugs you need to be 99.999999% right. Like, there' no use saying, 'Oops, sorry'.
