no. if you have cds or music on your computer already, just add it to iTunes, plug the iPod in, then load the songs to your iPod. the directions that come with it tell you how to do all of this. you can if you want to, but you're not required to buy music from the iTunes store.

If you download songs from iTunes to install on your iPod you have to pay for each song. If you already own the music in MP3 format or on a CD you you can copy it onto your iPod without paying anything extra.

Theoretically, you are supposed to pay for music. Now, if you choose to do so, there are two great sites out there! The first one is Apple, of course. You can purchase one song for ninety nine cents or you can purchase entire albums. Most albums cost only $9.90! http://www.limewire.com is also a great site to use. It is a legit site. You pay a one-time fee of $20, and you get as many downloads as you want.
If you want to though, if you have cds, you can actually rip the cds onto your computer, and reformat them to MP4 (iTunes format, which is pretty easy to do) and then put them in your iTunes. Viola! As legal as a handshake!

Well, the legal way of course is to buy the songs for $0.99 each on iTunes music store (you will get iTunes with your iPod). Of course there are other illegal ways of downloading music and such for free. It depends on you really.

Yes you need to get ipod songs and they charge. you are better of with a Sony Walkman Mp3 player if you ask me. You can download load any song free of charge and play them on your walkman, which incedently are pretty similar to the Ipod.
