I can reconnect by closing down both computers, unplugging the modem and router, replugging them in and then starting up both computers. It is time consuming and really annoying. We have always had this problem off and on. This last weekend we installed a 4 year old computer to replace a 6 year old computer. Both run XP. With this new computer, the problem has become daily. Any suggestions?

best idea would be to call the internet service provider to see if they have any problems, and to test the modem, line etc..
if thats not a problem dont use the router connect directly and see if the problem still happens if still ongoing, scan for spyware, virus, run all windows updates.

Hibernation is not a good option for computer users.. that was achieved long time ago. alll u need to save power is turn off the monitor in 10-15 minutes, monitor (CRT ot LCD, doesn't matter) is the main power consumption source, i neevr turn off my computer and never use hibernation because it can eventually damage your HDD easily too.. from sleep to awake many times a day can damage your files... do you like to be awake and sleep many times a day? go and disabled hibernation mode, as well as, power saving, turn off harddisk never and system standby never.. unless you are using notebook, which i doubt you are.. so considering you are using desktop, just set monitor to turn off around 10-15 minutes and set the screen saver 5-9 minutes, that will save alot of power and your computer will be working just perfectly hope that helps

Like the other poster says, call your provider first. If the problem is on their end, you can't do anything on your end....other than switch providers.
