Trying to see if it would work as a generator for a windmill..even if ineffective...i think starters have magnets so I believe it would work but not 100%sure

Depends on what you are planning to run...

There is very little difference between a motor and a generator. Electricity will be generated when you pass a wire through the magnetic field. If the car starter motor does not have a permanent magnet, then you would have to supply enough power to the starter so that a magnetic field is generated. You may also have some problems with diodes and rectifiers having to be modified to accept the change.

Yes it should generate power (assuming there is sufficient residual magnetism in the iron).

However, it may not be the most suitable generator, depending on what you plan to do with it since doesn't have the control circuits a generator would have.

If this is any more than a hypothetical question, consider the alternator as much better but it does need to be connected to a battery to work.

You'd be better off using the alternator.. it was designed to generate electricity in the first place!

Yes it will but not very good at all. It wasn't designed for that.

Dude.......Don't use the starter....use the alternator......That's what they do.....the shaft turns and it makes power....
