It depends on you, your body and if it's your first pregnancy. Average for an average sized women (or even overweight women) is normally around 16-18 weeks (roughly 4 months) but sometimes it's later and sometimes earlier. If it's your second pregnancy, you'll probably feel the pants tighter earlier. (I did by 9 weeks, and my first daughter it wasn't until like 19 weeks). Don't wait too long before switching to either a bigger size (if you don't like maternity clothes) or maternity clothes. You shouldn't wear your pants too tight because it can compress the baby and/or the umbilical cord sometimes. Good Luck though!

It really depends on the woman. I know for me, I was able to squeeze into regular low-rise jeans all the way up until my 7th month. The maternity jeans were too big and frumpy before that time. So I just bought a bigger size in the regular jeans and let my belly hang over. I am now 32 weeks and can finally fit nicely into the maternity jeans! No more buttons digging into my belly! But, it all depends on how much you weighed to begin with and where you gain your weight while you are pregnant. I have really only gained in my belly and chest. However some women put on weight everywhere. When you do end up looking for maternity pants I suggest the Motherhood Maternity store and Old Navy's online maternity store. They both have a variety of sizes and lengths to cater to many sizes of women. Good luck!

My pants felt tighter at 8 weeks but I think most of it was bloating. I am now 13 weeks and have a little bump and I feel like I look pregant, but everyone is diffrent. I had a friend who is very thin and you could not tell she was pregnant until 6 months and then she just blew up, gained like 40 pounds in the last 3 months.

I was always fairly thin, but this problem started within weeks for me with both pregnancies. By the fourth month I had to seriously think about elastic waists and more comfortable clothes. This can really vary from person to person, though. Don't be vain, be comfortable, even if it means going to elastic waist pants and skirts, and wearing your husband's shirts. If you are going to a doctor for regular checkups, make sure that you also ask him about what is or isn't normal weight gain for your frame and for keeping you and your baby healthy. In my case, due to my being thin, that little bulge was noticeable (at least to me!) within the first 4 weeks. In any case, do NOT fret about it!

My pants started getting too tight at about 17 weeks along. Now at 20 weeks, none of my pants fit me, and even the maternity belt is too tight on my hard tummy. So I'm now wearing maternity pants.

I felt my pants get tighter immediatley after I found out I was pregnant. But, that was most likely psychological.

This usually depends on how big you are to begin with. Some people swear their clothes are tight at 5 weeks and others at 5 months or later. I think the average is sometime in the second trimester.
