People hate what they don't understand.
I do not know the laws where you live at, but you may consider contacting a gay rights group to check if your firing was legal and perhaps getting them to help organize a visible boycott against your former employer.
If your employer has locations besides the city you are in, you may also consider writing to the newspapers wherever your former employer has a business interest.

People always have been afraid of what they don't understand. And the prevailing attitude regarding non-traditional sexual orientation/lifestyle in this country right now does not make it any easier. If you were fired ONLY because you were gay, you have a right to file a complaint against that company to the labor board charging unlawful discharge.

Depending on what state you live in, you may very well have a good case against them.
IF your state has a non-discrimination policy, or even your city/county, your ex-employer may be in violation and you can sue for lost wages.
I'd contact ACLU and LAMBA Legal Defence as quickly as possible.
Oh, and just so you know, NOT ALL States have these non-discrimination policies, so until you find out, you don't know if it's illegal or not.

(this is an interesting view, im bisexual, just so you know not to get mad AT ME for saying this) well, girls dont want guys to become bisexual, so even if they had nothing agaist those people they would still dislike it, because there would be less straight men for them, if the women treat gays with respect, then more guys will be bisexual. if women haze gay men, then the bisexuals will stay straight, and this works, even if it isnt thier intention, because i would have been openly bisexual a long time ago if it werent for homophobia.... (interesting)

You got fired because you are gay?!! Get a lawyer, fast! That's very illegal, your rights as an employee have been flushed.
People are homophobic because they don't understand or worse yet were taught that lifestyle choices are clear cut, black and white, I'm right so that makes you wrong, narrow mindedness.

Because they don't understand and need someone to disciminate. You just need to learn that its unfair the way we are treated but not alot we can do about it. Slowly being gay is becoming more accepted but its a slow process and not everyone will understand. I guess its just the way the world is...

For the same reason people are racist: People fear what they don't understand. Many people have been so brainwashed that homosexuality is "wrong" (for no valid reason except it's "what the bible says") by other people that it's ridiculous.
I would definitely get a lawyer and sue your former employer back into the stoneage if I were you.

because people naturally fear what is different from them. That comees form a number of sources and places. Just because you are X could give them a reason to either fear you or loathe you or get you fired because you are not one of them. I think that it is mostly from a Religious arena...
