The first thing I do when I come onto Y! Answers is set that to ALL ANSWERS.
The reason is I noticed a long time ago that those ratings mean absolutely NOTHING... Actually, if you pay close attention, there are like a bunch of children or immature ppl that purposely give bad ratings to some great answers and some great questions.
I notice that a lot and don't understand it at all except that they are just being immature.
Btw, I actually don't normally read the other answers to a question. The only time I do is if I am particularly interested in a question.

I read all answers unless they include vulgarity, i believe that most people have something important to add to any subject, and then you have some who never contribute anything but they do express their ignorance. Most of the time an answer is given a low rating because it is against the belief of the questioner!!

It won't be minimized if at the top right you pull down the page that reads oldest to newest, or newest to oldest, unless you, yourself have voted a thumbs down to an answer given. I have mine set to Oldest to Newest, so I can read everybody's answer, after I have voted my conscience, THEN, I vote thumbs UP, or DOWN, so yes, I ready almost everyone's answer, but I do not let it influence my own mind, and choice.

Of course. This is yahoo answers. If an answer is intelligent, and includes proper spelling and grammar, and doesn't have a thousand exclamation points, it's more likely to have a low rating.
