Not that you have control over your height, but it's a nice to have not a need to have. As long as your QB can see you're open. Santana Moss, Terry Glenn and Steve Smith aren't tall but they are explosive. Hall of Famer Steve Largent was 5'11". He was considered too small and too slow, but he knew how to get open and had great hands.

Train for speed and agility, learn to be a good route-runner, and never drop the ball. (Don't fumble either, aka, Plaxico Burress 6'5" waste of height.)

Tony, Certainly go out for a sport like football!! Keep in mind that you'll be comming in green, but, there's alot more to a team sport than playing. One thing I would encourage you to do is to go out for wrestling this winter. I say this because you already know you need to be working out, but, perhaps the coaching staff on the wrestling team will be able to help you regimin your routine so that the workout will show results. Also, wrestling will help with balance, endurance, and competitive spirit. At the very least, you'll get used to being physical with another person (something we're trained from Kindergarten not to do.) One other thing I would suggest is to go to the nearest colleges and find out if they host 'camps' for various positions. If anything, you'll learn something that you can bring to the first day of football practice next year. I would suggest you try WR, DB, or even safety, when you start working out and putting on muscle weight, you'll fill out - I'm 5'9, and when I was your age I wrestled at 156, and was the perfect size for safety.

As tall as you need to be to get open.
High school QBs usually don't have the accuracy to play "jump ball" like Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss, so while it would obviously help for you to be 6-4, it's not essential.
It's far more important that you run sharp routes and are fast.

Oh, and unlike WRs in Atlanta ... CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!!

Since you can't control it don't worry about it. Concentrate on things such as strength and conditioning. Also work on your hand eye coordination and, as many of the others have mentioned, route running. Won't be worth anything thing if you can't complete the catch or run the proper route. Good luck and remember to enjoy yourself, it's just a game after all.
