It also depends on what your mom looks like. I know quite a few people who started out with extremely blond hair and it darkened quite a bit once they got older. You may have some lighter complected ancestors that are causing you to be lighter. So, yes, it is common.

Genetics is very complex subject and some people spend their whole lives studying it. When you have mixing of genes, the way you look depends on how your gene is expressed. Genes for hair color, eye color, skin complexion are all inherited and some are dominant some are recessive. Who knows your child may show more cherokee features than you...or maybe your grandchild.

I'm 1/4th Cherokee and have bright blue eyes and fairly fair skin, but I tan easy. My dad is half cherokee and he is darker than me but he has green eyes. Just depends on the genetics.

One never knows what recessive genes might do. What other ethnic groups are you? If predominately lighter skinned, lighter haired/eyed, those genes might have won out. Many people have blond hair when younger that turns dark as they mature, and they don't even have to have Amerindian blood in them.

Yeah, that doesn't sound too unusual. If you're only an 8th, and your father's side has Aryan or Scandinavian features within the last 2 generations, then it's not surprising that your features aren't very Native-looking.

if you have blonde hair that will naturally get bleached by the particular sun in the summer. There had been this guy in my class who had golden blonde hair that had been a medium brown near the base. When he came back to college after summer vacation, it was almost platinum blonde!
