Nope, it's not what you are thinking... I mean they use the word "holiday" to REPLACE the word "Christmas." Hey, I understand saying things like "the holidays" because of the ENTIRE season, but they say things like holiday decorations, holiday gifts, holiday cards, holiday spirit, holiday lights and even... are you ready for this...? "Holiday trees." LOL. WTH is a 'holiday' tree? Ever seen a 'Holiday Tree' lot on the side of the road?
I guess saying "Christmas" means getting sued for offending a few who don't like the Christmas season or something. The usage of the word Christmas must now be banned for being so offensive to the 14% of this nation who don't celebrate Christmas, I guess. Being PC is going way overboard these days IMO.
What's your take on this? Does the C-word offend you? Are you also using the H-word in public, because you are now afraid to say the C-word?

Its amazing isn't it. Even in Germany's Christmas Festival, they banned the "Nativity" movie clip (not the full movie) for fear of offending Muslims. And Muslims are offended when their religion does not supersede Christianity - so they hand everything over to their will.
Since 9-11 (an attack on Americans and world freedom) it seems that instead of Islam apologizing to us - we must apologize to them? Not that I expected an apology from all Muslims because of the act of a few..., but still we entered a kind of bizarro world since 9-11, whereby everyone is afraid to offend Islam.., and I just don't get it.
No body will say thats what its about -but hey, Atheists have been screaming like Vampires exposed to garlic, objecting to anything with God or Christ in it -yet nothing ever came of it. Suddenly after 9-11, POOF! Everything goes. No religious references allowed but Islam.
Point in case - The White House has not had a Christmas celebration in a some years - for fear of drawing fire from the ACLU on the issues of separation of Church and State. However - President George Bush held a Muslim "Ramadan" religious celebration openly recognizing Islam and their roots back to Ishmael of the Bible.., carefully avoiding the use of the word "Bible" and clearly giving credence to the Quran. The ACLU said nothing! hello?
I am not offended by Christmas, but I am offended at Islam for taking away our cherished religious belief... yet the ACLU and our Government agencies are not clamoring to fix this offence.., instead they defend, uphold and Promote Islam, yet putting the draino on Christ, Christianity and Christmas and flushing it all down the drain, pipe by pipe. All since 9-11!!! Something is way wack about this whole thing.

I think you are pretty accurate with your assessment but i think it actually started because we now recognize (respect) I think like 5 different holidays all around the same time. Kwanza, Rammadan, Chanukah, X-mas and I think one other.
The sad part about the idiots who have bunched these holidays all together is that each one has major different meaning and significance. Like Kwanza and Ramaddan are not happy holidays where christmas is such an enjoyable one. And chanukah is the festival of lights. I do not get it either.
I truly think the answer is:
HALLMARK. they did this so they could sell more cards.
I think Christmas should be left alone. It was here first and does not deserve to be disrespected by these other new wave, pc holidays.
Christmas and Chanukah are festive gift giving joyous times of year.
What i do not like is people who know someone is jewish and get tounge tied or awkward when trying to say Happy Holidays. So that is why I think it really started.

People should celebrate whatever they want to celebrate, or not celebrate anything if that's what they choose to do, and otherwise just leave each other alone. And a Christmas tree is a "Christmas" tree, not a "holiday" tree. The whole entire season between the end of October and the beginning of January has become entirely too commercial and political anyways. Everyone should just celebrate whatever they choose to celebrate, mind their own business, and otherwise just shut the f*ck up!

I have some Jewish friends and they don't care. They even wish me a Merry Christmas on the 25th. But when used in public, that's understandably so a different story. Put yourself in the minority position. How would you feel if everywhere you went everyone was overshadowing your specific holiday tradition by saying Merry/Happy Whatever all the time. I don't know... it's just a considerate thing. It's a very American thing to do considering that this country takes pride in its diversity.
It's usage is meant to not offend ANYONE- even the majority.

I'm noticing a change out there, people are pissed that they can't say Christmas and they're mad!!! And rightfully so!!! If someone doesn't like Christmas, then don't celebrate it. But don't tell the rest of us what to do with our time to celebrate the birth of Christ!!! What really amazes me is all of those people out there shopping like crazy and loving the days off and extra pay over "the holidays" but still won't say Christmas. What the heck are they celebrating then? Merry Christmas everyone and may the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!!!

I ALWAYS SAY CHRISTMAS!!! If it was not for Christ's birth there would be no need for the season anyways. Beside, walmart is back to saying Happy Christmas again and if they do it it cannot be wrong. =)

No one is banning the word Christmas. Some people choose to say happy holidays because - Gasp! - not everyone is christian. The hell I say!

The world are getting influenced by evilness...of course they want the Gods believer & Jesus Christ eliminated so that God`s power will be lessening...then later on will be forgotten.
You see...14% can influence the whole country? what a battle of good and evil!
It`s okay! as long as you celebrate it in your house, in your heart, in your mind and in spirit.
Be blessed!
