It really depends on what kind of law you want to practice. Some areas are far more respectable than others. Some are downright despicable. You will almost certainly make a better living practicing law, but life is not necessarily about that.
As far as Anthropology - it is a very noble profession. But there is tremendous travel involved, and it may take you a while to be able to make a good income.
First think about the kind of lifestyle you want to live, and go from there. These professions will give you drastically different lifestyles, and that could be your basic deciding factor right there.

so, why can't you be both, get your J.D. and your masters or higher in anthropology? SInce you want to help people you need to consider which career will allow you to do that fully. Who cares if people don't like you as a lawyer, you'll still be the one they call for legal problems, right? I'm sure there's a way you could combine these two interests and create a career, such as becoming a litigator for Amnesty International, or focusing your law career on civil rights, animal rights, or some other social cause, or running for political office. Plenty of NGO's hire lawyers, as do lobbying groups such as the the American Humane Society or Mothers Against Drunk Driving. As an anthropologist you could research at a foreign university, work for foreign interest companies, become a consultant for corporations, there are many possibilities.
Yes the headache is work it. It's your career, you don't want to hate what you do everyday, right? If it is what you love to do, if you could work at whatever career you choose for 60 hours a week, for little pay, and still enjoy it, then it shouldn't give you a headache in the first place.

Both these are very good careers. Remeber that lawschool also costs a lot of money, but you will make more money as a lawyer.
15 years down the line do you see yourself trudging down somewhere in the middle of nowhere finding out about new culture ? Or do you see yourself settled in, moneyed suburban lawyer -? a bit stuffy, but settled.
Talk to a few anthropologists and lawyers and ask them about their life experiences. See if the lifestyle is for you. Or combine the two passions ; major in anthropology and then go to lawschool to represent rights of minorities.

The headache is worth it if thats yuor life style.
Let me ask you two questions:
1. Are you good at dealing with frustration?
If not skip being a anthropologist. Anthropology is all about searching and searching and searching and finding very little.
2. Do you have good logical skills and good reasoning skills?
If you can not demonstrate logical deductions, you will fail to convince anyone of your position and loose your case.
Oh and ... nothing is ever locked in stone. You might concider becoming an Anthropologcal Lawyer and do both. (Small joke.)
good luck deciding

Personally, I would be an anthropologist. Social scientists tend to seek the truth, while lawyers rely on an adversarial process that is dominated by the arbitrary rules of society. I think being an anthropologist would give you a better chance to help people.

Long before I decided to become a lawyer I considered a career in archeaology. My professor informed me "there's only so much stuff to dig up". I have another friend who is a lawyer who majored in anthropology and worked in the field for a few years before going to law school. I would recommend that approach. There is no need to rush right into law school after college.

This will be a roundabout answer but here goes; there is a branch of astrology that deals in vocational guidance...Go to just about any astrology website and look into it!! it will help clarify the exact field you should be in and answer many other questions about you as an individual........don't laugh, it works....keep an open mind and see what happens..........Another angle: every morning when wake up, pretend you are a lawyer or an anthropoligist; which of the two professions makes you feel good about getting up in the morning? I know these are not very direct answers, but I hope they make you think and consider what is a very important decision for you!!!!!!!!!!! good luck...email me if you have any questions about any of this rambling answer!!!

Yes, the "headache" is worth becoming a lawyer. I've been practicing for 33 years and it is great work. A few people are prejudiced against lawyers but those who know you will respect you if you conduct yourself in an honorable fashion.
