Yes, it should. Because for one: if two homosexual people get married, it doesn't even effect those who oppose it. It has no bearing on their life and doesn't change anything for them.
Two: people need to think about this.. if a gay couple has a child together (and YES you bigots this is possible) if they are not allowed to marry, one parent can just take the child and NEVER allow the other to see it. This is not only unfair to the ostracized parent, but for the child as well. Also, on the same note, they are not afforded the same rights as a straight married couple. Meaning that if one is in the hospital, according to the HIPAA laws the other is not allowed to receive any information pertaining to the patients health, or even be allowed in the room without express permission from the patient. If the patient is unconcious, that permission is impossible.
For all you people who are going to start quoting the Bible.. that has nothing to do with the laws of this government.

I am a straight married woman, (I know, WHOAH) I feel marriage is based on love, trust, compassion, friendship, and trust. If you find that within someone of the same sex, so be it. you should be able to commit to that person.
It is so sad that society is the way it is. Being gay or lesbian or bisexual did not just happen in the last decade. It has always been around. It was just hidden. Society needs to realize we are in a world today with so many issues to worry about, hunger, homeless, war, social security, and the list goes on.
So be gay, be proud, and when you walk down a street with your spouse and people stare, smile at them and let them know how happy you are!!!!!!!!!!!
Bless you!

The gay marriage fight is really a battle between two groups of religious denominations - Christian and other in both cases. That battle is being missed by the media, and I believe that the battle threatens democracy in America.
One of the reasons for the Revolution, in which ancestors of mine fought -- was to establish freedom of religion in the new nation. Now, we are throwing that away, because contrary to what those on the Right would like you to think, this is not a battle between "people of faith" and "atheists" or some such -- this is a battle between two groups of people of faith, using the government to establish one sides views -- the EXACT THING that the anti-establishmentarian clause of the Constitution is there to prevent.
Of course no one should "make" those whose faiths oppose gay marriage perform such marriages, and no one ever would. So ministers from the Southern Baptists and Assemblies of God and Ultra-Orthodox Jews and Fundamentalist Muslims should never be asked to perform gay marriages, and certainly not forced to.
On the other hand, why should faith groups that support gay marriage -- such as the United Church of Christ, the Unitarian/Universalist Society, the North American Spiritualist Church, Reform Judaism, and the Correllian Tradition of Wicca -- all recognized Churches and 501c3s be barred from practicing their religious faith, which says it is ok to marry same sex couples?
The first group of faith groups is realistically using the government to prevent the second group of faith groups from practicing what they believe. The founders tried to prevent this, for the stability of the country. It doesn't matter that everyone "thinks" they are right and others are wrong -- it matters that we are plural as a society and the government should recognize everyone's ceremonies the same -- which means that gay marriages committed by churches and faith groups that believe in gay marriages, should be honored by the government regardless of what groups that don't like it say.
Everyone's beliefs can be honored, thus preserving the values that my 12 times removed Great Grandfather died for -- but not if we allow one side to legislate away the rights of the other side.
And that's what I think.
Regards,
Reynolds Jones

I have friends who are gay and might I just say..... they are so in love. I believe gay marriage should be legal all over the world. If two people.... any two people decide to spend the rest of their lives together, then maybe society shouldn't judge. People are people and gays and lesbians have been around since man kind began. People are still having trouble accepting the fact that everyone has rights, and one of those rights is to love whom ye shall.

People do not know waht we are speaking of is simply Love. We are not prevents because we love our own gender.
Christain Right winged say 36% of all child power abuse is inflicted by Gays. Gays says its 7%.
Even using the Right wings guess, there are still more straight persons Abusing our young then homosexuals.
The Proud Lesbians of Poverty a Yahoo group, is open to all people, and it believes we must deal with ending the myths.
Using the inflated numbers of the Right Winged, Stop blaming Gays. Let us Live in peace and dignity

YES!!! It's ridiculous so many people freak out over this issue when there are so many other things we as a society should be worried about. Gay marriage should not even be an issue. It's two people who have fallen in love and want to form a legal union. i just don't understand why that scares so many people. And that fact that it does scare so many scares me. Talk about living in a "Hilteresque" society. Next thing you know only blond hair and blue eyes will be considered human and the rest of us will be animals fighting to survive.

I think so. It is 2 people committing to each other.
I also think it is good in that once people are committed, they will hopefully be less likely to dally elsewhere. It is important within all sexual orientation that better care is taken with sexual partners to slow the rise in STD's. Commitment is a good way to do this.
It also protects you in the event of a death of a loved one, that even as a same sex couple you are secure and dont lose what has been worked for by a couple.
I believe we all have the right to live our lives how we want whilst being respectful of other people. That includes same sex marriage.

Well, my personal belief (and history will back me up ) that two men or two women together is not a conventional marriage. Although I do think Gays and lesbians are unique, and should be able to have a unique bond such as a union and be able to get the benefits of a married couple.

I'm absolutely convinced that there is nothing bad in a gay marriage. We live in the 21st century and those stupid things like: homosexuality is an illness and other are vapid.I mean that gays aren't different from us.Who cares who they sleep with.More important is what kind of people are they. And if someone is nice, generous, honest, then I don't give a **** if he has sex with another man.

yes, I think it should. I am a straight female but i would say why not. Everyone has the right to freedom and happiness. If someone has anything to say about it or gives you dirty looks it must be b/c there life isn't going right and they aren't happy.
