We recently got a wireless router/modem, and we're trying to get the rest of the hardware together. Two of the three computers are closed architecture, so installing a card is out of the question.

in case you haven't any longer have been given a instant router then what's the factor of having a Wifi USB adapter? i think of you're getting it perplexed with a 3G internet modem -- they arrive interior the variety of USB contraptions and workstation-playing cards (nevertheless USB ones are extra user-friendly). those are bought by using internet companies like sprint, Verizon etc. those modems do no longer use accepted Wifi -- they use cellular telephone alerts (3G) and as such will value you.

Yes, Linksys, Belkin, and Dlink all make one. Swing by a Best Buy, Circuit City, or some place like that. It's just a little USB Flash drive that you pop in and you are good to go. They aren't quite as realiable as PCI Cards, but they work fine, and if you have problems you can usually just unplug the adapater and plug it back in and you're good to go.

Yep! I've used several brands. In general, it's suggested to stick to one vendor for all of your wireless equipment. So if you have a D-Link router, use D-Link network adapters, etc. But, yes, we use almost all USB wireless NICs here at home.

what do you mean by closed architecture, if it's a desktop computer it should be able to be opened for a PCI card to be installed. If it's a laptop, there's a wireless card that will go into a slot on the outside.

I use Linksys. It's best to keep all your wireless equipment the same, that way they are compatible. My network adapter plugs into one of my USB ports. I have a USB hub, but the adapter requires a port of its own, so if you planned to plug it into a hub, it probably won't work.
