Probably the most misunderstood thing about breeding plecos is their diet. A minimal amount of protein in their diet helps them out with the breeding process. Depending on what your plecos eat (vegtables...) It seems that the wood eaters, Peckoltia and Panaque, enjoy chewing on apple and sweet potatoes.

You should keep them in another tank until they get bigger (not big enough so they are fighting for space either).

Hope this helps!

Plecos don't have babies (fry), they are egg layers. The eggs are guarded by the father until they hatch and start swimming around. Then he can do nothing more for them. The female kind of takes off and doesn't care.

Angelfish are renowned fry hunters and if they know there are fry in a tank, they will spend all their time looking for and eating them.

If it would be a major undertaking to catch and remove the pleco fry the easiest thing to do would be to move the angels and the shark to another tank if you have one. If not, catch the babies and put them in a fry net that hangs inside the tank so they will be in the water they hatched in. It will be easier to feed them in the net and easier to clean it too.

When my plecos spawn, I move the cave, the father and the eggs to another tank so the fry can hatch and not worry about being eaten. Once they are out swimming, just move the cave and the father back to the main tank.

I have two spawning pairs of bushynosed plecos right now, one albino (pink to white with pink eyes) pair and one pair that the female is brown and the male is albino.

Remember, if they spawn once, they will continue. The small bushynoses are notorious for making lots of babies when they are in good condition. Give them a small cave to get inside and you will have to separate them to stop them.

Good luck with saving the fry!

You can buy little boxes and hang it from the tank (on the inside) you will have to catch them all and put them in. Maybe get the other fish out fist while you do this.
