Shoulder pads are not usually a good thing. A small shoulder pad is sometimes used in a jacket for someone with a very small top half that wants to balance out their bottom half. If you are an overweight woman, dont classify yourself differently. Okay, maybe you might have to shop in plus size stores, but if you remember certain things, you can make yourself thinner than you actually are. 1. Accentuate your waist with waist bands, empire waist lines, etc. Your waist is theline between your upper body and lower body so if you raise the waist line, everything below it looks like legs, which will give you a longer and leaner look. 2. Don't wear anything too tight or anything TOO loose. 3. Try a three quarter length sleeve. It is still a very feminine cut sleeve, but it will get over the biggest part of your arm and give it a slimming effect. 4. Try a great fitted jacket, one that comes in at the waist and flares out at the hips. This will give you a slimmer look. 5. Last, but certainly not least. POINTY TOED SHOES! They elongate the leg and give you a longer and leaner look. &Whatever you do, NO TAPERED PANTS! Hope I helped you. If you have any other questions, just ask. Have a great day!

Yes to the padded shoulders, no to the January sales rush.

Oh yes! Watch some Dynasty or Dallas repeats and you will see more padded shoulders than the average American Football team.

The thing is though, they had a purpose. By heightening, widening and 'squaring off' the profile of the shoulders they give you the appearance of having more balanced proportions and a smaller waist.

Just make sure you go for discreet sized ones to give you a more elegant sillhouette!

Yes, it was the 80s fashion. I wore padded shoulders and I loved it. I still do, but I don't think I'd used them again.

uhmm not quite sure what you mean but i'll try my best...
that was the style back then, it hid boney jointed shoulders, and some women still wear padded shoulders in their wedding dresses and other formal dresses. my mother does and i sometimes but rarely do. one thing that trend did was to make womens shoulders seem a bit broader giving a persona of a strong person, able to stand on their own.

Shoulder pads were just fashionable... not because of a sales rush.

I don't even understand what that means.
