Not only do I work for a surgeon, but I've had a total vaginal hysterectomy; 6 years ago.
Recovery was not bad. Your doctor will prescribe meds to control your pain. My hospital stay was one day and a half. Will you be keeping your ovaries or not? I opted not to keep mine; I've had cysts that needed to be drained on them before, and ovulation and hormone fluctuation each month was a contributing factor with my IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). I've been on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) since my surgery, since I was young when I had the initial procedure done. I am 44 now. I take Cenestin, it's a synthetic hormone. Less side effects for me than the others.
Having a hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did! Now, every February, I celebrate my "free womanhood" day! I honestly don't know how on earth I dealt with the whole horrible heavy bleeding, bloating, cramping, bitchiness thing for soooo long.
Just remember to follow doctors orders post-op; no heavy lifting for as long as he/she says. Not much surgery to see on the outside, but major surgery on the inside!!! You'll be back to yourself in no time at all. In the meantime, relax and let others pamper you at home!

A friend of mine had it done on Monday. She felt pretty calm about it. She said it is just snip snip & the uterus is removed through the vagina. She felt if, the vagina can accommodate a birth so it should be able to accommodate her uterus. The recovery is shorter even than a c-section which can last 6 weeks.
Recovery is 2 weeks but no heavy lifting for 5 weeks.
Although laparoscopy-assisted vaginal hysterectomy involves a shorter hospital stay, speedier postoperative recovery, and less analgesia use, there is also a higher rate of bladder injury and lengthier surgery. These outcomes must be weighed when choosing an intervention.

I had a laproscopic with vaginal help finished hysterectomy. My surgical technique replaced into complicated, taking 6 a million/2 hours because of the fact of endometriosis we did no longer understand I had. I additionally produce different wellbeing issues so I stayed in for 40 8 hours. it could have been much less with out the different wellbeing issues.
