If you have been following the news for the past decade or so you might know how nearly all of Africa is in a mess. Political coruption on a scale that the world has never seen. Stavation on millions because of selfish leaders to steal money from the dozen of nations that try to feed these poor people. Should we in America go to Africa and teach them how to not steal, how to govern in an honest way, help them set up laws, show them how to live. We just watched a tape from one of the largest charities in Africa...these people only know how to hold out their hands for hand outs, most have never had a job and know nothing of personal responsibilty. My brother finished his masters in Ed..this past summer, he spent 2 Month's with the Africans, he was shocked how self-driven everyone one is, they think little beyond their own personal needs...thusly we have the poverty we have there.

what should we do?

We should leave them alone. Or perhaps you might be suggesting we enslave them, in a figurative sense of the word, by forcing them to live like westerners. We may have the best system here in the west, but it is obvious, like in Iraq, that not all people are cut out to make a democracy work. Interference would mean more war and more reconstruction. Things are moving slow enough in Iraq, we really don't need to expand on our problems.

The US isn't exactly the moral leaders. We have more of our population in prison then most countries. You can't think of Africa as a problem that can be fixed the same way you fix problems in other parts of the world. Africa has unique problems since it is a unique part of the world. I don't think there is a simple solution to solving their problems. All we can do is try to help them and hopefully it works.

American government has no business teaching other cultures about not stealing and governing in an honest way.

I think the best method is to withdraw all aid and force the African people to stand up for themselves and demand better treatment and society from their government. You can't force democracy on people, the people have to want it and have to earn it.

There is not a whole lot we can do.

They have to change themselves.
