Serious question. You would think that they would be pro contraception as it lessens the need for abortions. You'd probably get more people to be "pro life" if you were anti abortion but for creating other alternatives, don't you think?

Some folks carry the abortion thing to extreme extremes, like to the point of conception. Get a copy of monty Python's "The Meaning of Life" and check out the (I think second) vingette, "Every Sperm is Special". It's a hoot.

Because the truth is they're not mainly anti-abortion, they are anti-sex.

Abortion and contraceptives are the same thing to them - they enable "sinful" pleasures like premarital sex with no corresponding "consequences" (babies / STDs).

Frankly, I think half of those nuts WANT you to get sick and pregnant, just to vindicate their views on human sexuality and religion. This is why a lot of these groups fight to ban family planning centers that perform abortions, or provide free condoms. Or preach abstinence-only education to kids instead of teaching them how to protect themselves if they DO have sex (which most will). Or cut funds for contraceptives for AIDs stricken African countries.

Their answer is always "well, just don't have sex in the first place" and we've seen how well that works.

I gave up expecting rationality from people who find truth in a book written thousands of years ago by men who thought the world was flat and disease was caused by demons a long time ago
