I know it requires money, time and effort but I don't know where to start. Does this make any sense? Any suggestions?

You HAVE to use a company called PROMOVE. They do all the work for you as far as finding an apartment - and their services are free! It saves a lot of time so you don't have to visit a bunch of random apartments. They will create a tailored list of apartments that meet YOUR specific needs. They also get you discounted rent rates. I've used them twice. They have offices all over the Atlanta area. You won't regret using them! Check out their website.

I would suggest, sending your Resume to Temporary agencies in the downtown area, (if you're an Urbanite) if not check the suburban area and send your resume there! You will be surprised how quick you will get a job offer. I move here 25 years ago and it has been wonderful for me, never been without a job. File your taxes immediately, the first of the year with your last paycheck statement from your job and you'll have your check by the end of the month. (That way you have money to start the ball rolling) Depending on your age, if you don't mind staying with elderly people until you get on your feet, contact the Aging Connection agency here in Atlanta and they will find affordable housing for you with an elderly person, that might need some help, say running errands, and the such. You'd be surprised how wonderful it is to live with the elderly. Well, that's a start. Email me if I can help further.

start looking for job (u cant move without money or survive without income), check out the neighborhoods to determine which one u want to live in (then select apt, condo, etc)

once thats taken care of look at trucks (compare prices and call).

give notice on apt, electric, water, cable, etc (30 days)
some will let u switch over to ATL (do that if you can) if not then u will need to start service there. your new apt (if thats where u go) will be able to give u a list of numbers and names of service providers.

find friends to help move and pack

Try finding a new place to live, or else you might end up living in the ghetto getting robbed and raped 5 times a week.
