They're a record-keeping file on you're computer to remember what sites you've been to. They can be very useful for trusted sites like www.usbank.com and such, but they can be VERY dangerous from untrusted sites like porn sites; these types of sites can put all kinds of nasty viruses, worms and trojans along with the dreaded Spy- and Ad-Ware. Be wary of cookies. Personally, I never allow them and always delete them form my PC. www.mozilla.com has a great internet explorer that is much safer than Microsoft's IE.

They are temporary files for example your username for a certain website. If you keep your cookies then when you go to some websites you'll already be logged in or at the login page your username will already be filled out (depends on whether you check the "Remember Me" box in some sites). If you erase them then you'll need to log in again for your membership websites. For example when you log into Yahoo!.

Generally, they are files that are created from websites that are stored on your computer. These files contain information that tells the website information about your visits to their website, as number of times, webpages you specifically visited. They can also be used to send you popups for related things. Also some sites use them to retain your username each time you visit, the site knows it was you.

Delicious treats generally served around the holidays. Ask around and see if someone can hook you up with the chocolate chip variety. If so, embrace this person warmly. But not too warmly, lest the local constable want to look into your whereabouts.
