I want to upgrade my computer to 80 GB or 120 GB HD. Which one should I select and choose, the IDE or the ATA ? Is there a big difference between them? It is a normal and standard desktop and don't know what to choose.

ata is faster BUT make sure your motherboard will take an ata hard drive....look for this:http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200504/hddinstall_sata2.jpg on your motherboard....if not then you have IDE. here is what the cables look like: http://www.thg.ru/mainboard/20020720/images/serialata2.jpg
good luck.

Hard Drives connect to the computer through an Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) interface. Essentially, an IDE interface is a standard way for a storage device to connect to a computer. IDE is actually not the true technical name for the interface standard. The original name, AT Attachment (ATA), signified that the interface was initially developed for the IBM AT computer. "IDE" or maybe more properly "ATA" controllers are the same thing.

ATA HD is the best way to go.

Depending upon your motherboard, you should select SATA disk with as high capacity you could afford. If your motherboard is about 2 years old or newer, you should select SATA, you can also check with the board manufacturer website to check if you can install SATA.

SATA is better than IDE as it is faster & wire is slim.
