Not only kids - I like Pokemon too (am 24)
Anyway most kids I know don't like Pokemon anymore - It isn't 'cool' anymore, they like Yu-Gi-Oh, and before that Digimon, - oh the shame, the shame!
I guess because there is something for all ages and abilities, there are the main video games, the puzzle video games, cartoons (shameless advertising that it is "Gotta Catch 'Em All" translates to gotta buy everything in sight), plush dolls, action figures, pogs, trading cards, the cartoon, movies, etc, etc. All with bright colours and lovable characters, who could resist.

I remember back in the 4th grade when I got hooked on pokemon. What really appealed to me was the fact that it was collectible. Kids really enjoy collecting things, whether it be cards, or pokemon. The fact that so much pokemon advertising existed helped too. Also, since it was a japanese anime, one of the first to be available to kids in the US, we naturally accepted it.
Nowadays, they keep coming out with new pokemon, new games, new cards. It's not as popular as before, but I'd say it's still going strong. I don't watch the episodes or collect the cards anymore, but I still like playing the games. They're good rpg games.

Well, if you're referring to the video games, they're actually kind of fun. It's essentially an RPG, which is a popular genre in itself, but with extensive options for your "party"--plus you can compete with friends using the party you've assembled.
The trading card games have a similar appeal, and... I can't say I know about the anime's popularity. I suppose it's just for those who love the game so much that they immediately like "anything Pokemon."

i'm 17 and i still play it, i got hooked you can say that,i played it since i was 10 and its so fun collecting all of them, especially the ' gotta catch them all' line which hooks me up

well, it's not too popular anymore... but I'd say the cute, and sometimes "cool" designs of the monsters, the battling aspect, showing a child (Ash) being independent and making decisions, ummmmm... I dunno what else lol
