He is young so there is still hope. I played an online game for a while & I know how kids can get. It can become very dangerous health wise & now is the time to stop. He is only 12yrs old so I am guessing he is living w/ his parents still. You need to inform your parents about this problem & tell them it is effecting his social skills & his health.

If I were them;

I'd take away the computer, or the internet connection, limit time the time aloud on the game & make sure he gets exercise & hangs out w/ his friends.

If you don't help your little brother now you will regret it later.

Do the right thing, your brother might get mad @ you now but he will love you for it later.

You have to first of all make some plans in your own mind how you are going to take his mind of the games. Then you have to implement them. I would suggest, make some frequent (once or twice a week) appointments just for the two of you in the evenings to go to the playgrounds to play some boys staff etc as a start. Also think up some other activities like fishing, or long distance driving or to the beach etc with a less frequency. Then slowly increase the frequency. If you see slow progress, even that is good enough. Give it a go and see what happens! Good luck.

it is very true that runescape is an addicting game. but i got bored with it already, sonner or later your brother will. because the limited game features make the players game limited and if the players want more, they have to pay.

as the character in the game becomes a seasoned character, it will be a lot harder to up the levels, he will get bored. dont worry.

this option might work : do some distractions while he's playing the game.

Sooner or later he will tired out. I do the dame at times, just play my game every chance I get and shut the world out. But after a while I go back to the real world. He could be up to worst things, like drugs and stuff but, he is not so I would not worry. Who knows may be he will become a game designer!

To get him to stop playing the game? Introduce him to World of Warcraft or Guild Wars. To stop playing on the comp.? Show him a console game, final fantasy, sly cooper, one piece grand adventure. Video games all together? Take him outside and pretend to be warriors with class skills and make some cool fake weapons or buy some. The new nerf longshot is an actual nerf sniper rifle. Fun for any kid.

My cousin used to be like that with the ps2, he'd only stop to eat and sleep and he'd never go out of the house till his parents moved to the country, now he doesn't even bother, the most he played on the ps2 when he came here to visit was maybe 2-3 hours

Try introducing him to different sorts of games--such as multiplayer games that are best played with friends around him. Things like fighters (I find I can get anyone to try Super Smash Bros, regardless of their usual preference in games) or first-person shooters--or if he doesn't like those, turn-based strategy games like Heroes of Might and Magic or co-op RPGs like FF:Crystal Chronicles or Zelda: Four Swords.

Or even just try and get him to start playing a game with a very strong initial appeal, but little replay value--just as something to try and shake him off the MMORPG genre a bit, but also something that he won't become sequentially addicted to.

download a norton antivirus type of program or something of the type. i used to be addicted to runescape...yes it makes me shiver how sad it is now....so i do understand what has happened to him. a blocker woul stop him from playing very often, by trying to play wherever possible e.g at friends houses, and then he will get bored of the effort.

i managed to stop a couple of years ago by realizing what a waste of time the game was.
