That is a trick (tricky?) question. You can have 52 players on your formal roster. you designate a third quarterback, who can not play unless it is the fourth quarter or both one and two are injured earlier. Game day you must designate players as inactive to meet the Game day limit of 48. The true roster would have the 52 plus up to an additional six players designated as practice squad members (players with less than three years on active rosters). Thus you have 52 formal players, 48 game players, but 58 total players on your roster.
