Thats like saying 'Why go on vacation, you've only got to go home again when it's over'!!
So the question is really this "Is it worth it TO YOU"?
I love christmas time, not just for the REAL reason, but for the lovely lights, a decorated tree, the enjoyment my kids (now grown), and the excitement from my grandkids have every year.
Putting them up with friends or family is something I look forward to each year, and taking them down actually feels a little sad to me. But we are all different, and if money is the issue of buying decorations, there are loads of places on the net that you can buy them year round 'CHEAP', or buy them after christmas when they are all marked down 50 or 75% off, accumulating a little each year. So, NO decorating is NOT a waste of time to me,
nor anyone that I know personally...
So be of good cheer, hang those lights and decorate the tree..

David,
i hear your ?. obviously for the fast majority Christmas decorations are neither a waste of time or money. I'm fairly certain it is a multi million dollar business. Historically, families pass down their decorations to their loved ones. it is a tribute to the memories of Christmas 's past. it is only a "waste of time" if one puts up the decorations under order and takes them down with no joyful memories of the one that is over . but most important the anticipation of the next years; Christmas to come. There is no rule to say one bulb hanging from a special spot can not produce the same Good cheer as any well decorated Christmas tree that stands very tall. isn't it wonderful that all one has to do to see, and feel the spirit of Christmas is to drive at night to see some house lite up with holiday cheer? happy holidays to you & your loved ones.

Of course, Christmas decorations are not necessary.

However, If you can afford the Christmas decorations, and are not choosing to buy them instead of paying bills, and as long as you are not going into debt for them, it can be a nice thing to buy.

Why could it be a nice thing to buy?

Because the Christmas holidays can be a very exciting, happy time in people's lives. If the decorations bring a smile to your family's faces and others as well, and if the decorations help to make your Christmas brighter, then no, I think there is anything wrong with purchasing Christmas decorations.

Go for it as long as you can afford it and don't have to go into debt for it!

Good luck to you!!!! Be sure to take care of the decorations, as they can be used over again for many years tocome!

It depends on how you look at it. People no longer see Christmas for what it truly is. In today's society, the holiday season is a time of serious greed, deisire, and money. I mean, people who don't even believe in Jesus celebrate Christmas just for the fun of gifts. To answer your question, if you get nice classy decorations, make your house look nice. It can be fun decorating with family members that would be time to be truly valued. And if you save your decorations, you can use them again in the future.

I love decorating for Chiristmas! I put up all white lights though, I hate colored lights! I love decorating the tree and remembering the story behind each ornament as I put it on! I'm hoping to get a small ceramic nativity scene for inside the house this year! Come on, get into the Christmas Spirit, Scrooge!

there are alot of things people would consider a waste of time and money, but we still have them, Christmas is a time of joy, how you prefer to show that is up to you, decorating the tree is a tradition and later in life when you look at the decorations used over the years they can bring back wonderful memories, so no its not a waste of time to decorate the tree, I buy a couple of new ornaments every year that mean something to me of the year that is passing, and the ornaments I bought years ago I hang them up and remind myself of that part of my life, people tend to forget the small things in life,

I don't think so. That would make decorating for any occasion a waste - including birthdays and such. Decorations put people in the right mood and mark the occasion as special. They're even more special because they're not permanent.

And so it is with nearly anything made to beautify. I cook a lot, and this is a big thing with me--why waste time on presentation when it's going to be gone quickly? The answer, I've found, is that a little extra work turns a meal into an experience. Same thing with holidays.

Christmas decorations for Christians are a festive expression for the birth of Jesus. You and I celebrate our birthdays, isn't the son of God worth a few lights on the day of His birth?
