I'm trying to build a brand new computer but I'm stuck in between two processors at the moment. Its the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Orleans 2.2GHz Socket AM2 Processor and the Intel Pentium 4 541 Prescott 3.2GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor. Now, my budget is pretty much low at the moment and I really want to have a good gaming computer. Can someone tell me which processor is the best in over clocking and has a suitable temperature that wont fry up? Or if it's not even those, could someone recommend a few good processors to look into that would settle my craving for a pretty good gaming computer? Thanks!

The games I play (or I'm hoping to play) is FEAR, HL2, CS:S, WoW, and possibly few other games along the road but as it stands, I'll be putting in at least 2gigs of ram (OCZ Gold Series) along with a BFG Tech GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

I have an AMD 64 3400+ with a Geforce 7600GT and can run all modern games at highest settings with everything turned up full (when unclocked).

Personally I would stick with the AMD 64 range of processors. I've built dozens of PC's in my time, and for the money/performance you just can not go wrong with this.

As for overclocking, I just tend to clock the graphics cards, alot cheaper to repair if anything ever goes wrong, which of course it can easily do. That said, I have never felt the need to clock my processor on my PC, and only overclock my Graphics Card to see if there is much difference in gamesHope that helps.

I initially went with intel because of the clock speeds of the P4 and P4 based Celerons, that and my college district became into working the two Pentium IIIs and Pentium 4s in all of their structures, and my mom extensively utilized intel based computers while she worked as a nutrition provider contractor at IBM, yet AMD makes sturdy processors regardless, the Athlon 64s have been a extensive hit in the process the time between the middle of the P4 line and the final of the Pentium Ds, and had constantly concept AMD became into no longer so good as intel (intel brainwashed me!) yet as i've got been given greater matured interior the pc international, AMD began to no longer look so undesirable, so im now thinking of making a AMD based domicile laptop the three words that come to my innovations approximately intel: *Pentium *Celeron *Intel interior Now approximately AMD: *Athlon *Sempron *Hypertransport

Well out of those two the AMD is better. I am not too up on overclocking though. What is your budget and what games do you play?

You need to get an Intel Core 2 Duo otherwise you wont get the most out of that system. They overclock really well too. If you dont want to get a dual core yet then get one of the AMD FX series processors. The prices have dropped quite a bit on them recently. Intel can not touch AMD when it comes to single processors.

Why not go with the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Dual-Core? It is the low end dual core, but it may run a bit cooler than a single core processor. A Zalman CPU fan/heatsink and Arctic Silver thermal grease will help with the heat issues. The single core runs at 70 degrees C, the dual-core runs between 49 and 71 degrees C. Don't O.C. it's too hard on the components and it could cost you a processor on your tight budget. Upgrade first.

Get a Core 2 Duo processor, they run the coolest, and are very overclockable. They are not as expensive as you think.

AMD would be the best for games but both of them run hot so get the AMD and get a GOOD heat sink and fan
i don't know what one will OC better but i would go with the AMD and try OCing it.
