I removed the center bolt from the harmonic balancer and put the puller on. I am trying to hold the harmonic balancer with a strap wrench to keep it from turning while tighting the puller even put a pipe on breaker bar no luck. What am I doing wrong ?
I need to finish today

are you using the right kind of puller? a y shaped bar with 3 holes and a threaded hole in the middle? you shouldnt have to hold the balancer to keep it from spinning. and air gun to tighten the middle helps

First answer a good thought. If, everything is ready, you may have to put an Air Impact on it. Be real sure how the balancer is designed and that the puller mounted correctly. Some Fords had a Balancer that had an outer ring separated by a Rubber Band. If, a person not use the correct Puller Setup, you could pull off the outer ring leaving the inner part. So, that type required Bolts into the Center Assembly. Just a thought.

did you take the washer out of the hole or is you puller end small enough to push on just the crank,you may be pushing against the balancer and not the crank,the nothing will move

Northern tool or Harbor freight the tool prevents dammage to the pulley and is worth 45 dollars not to cobble up an alternative that rips the metal so the correct puller won't work.

do like i did once,i used a pipe wrench on the balancer and it kept it from turning.

I would recommend a little heat but there are a gazillion mechanics that will send me hate mail. But I work on a lot of junk and I would use a little heat
