The UK government are thinking of changing the sentencing for murder.
They want to bring in First Degree and,Second Degree Murder.
Is this a good thing or,is this another way of Americanising this country,after all,surely Murder is just that.

Yeah with you on this one, murder is murder is murder is death! How can you have varying degrees of it??? It no make sense!

It's a very good thing. It takes into account the conditions under which the murder occurred, primarily with regard to intent.

First degree murder generally refers to a "premeditated" act. An example would be making the conscious decision to kill a spouse for the purpose of collecting on their life insurance.

Second degree murder excludes "premeditation." An example would be an individual who strikes another in a fistfight, with no intention of killing his opponent, yet the opponent dies as a result of the blow.

Both are examples of murder, but they a hardly comparable.

I have just read some of the answers, and Angelhunt has quite literally taken the words out of my mouth. There should be this difference between the two events.
