They do not test because of the international treaty banning same. However, North Korea is not a signor to any U.N. or other agreement and therefore, can do what ever it likes. Mankind is already aware of the advantages of nuclear energy and it is not necessary to build or test a nuclear bomb to set up a nuclear reactor for power consumption purposes such as in nuclear power plants all over the globe.

this is two different questions. nuclear energy is very cost effective (there's lots of energy in a nuclear reaction) and relatively clean.

countries test nuclear weapons for multiple reasons, i think. first of all, if a country is developing these weapons, i would think they would want to know what they have their hands on. now, countries can say that but, part of setting one off, i think, is kind of a show for the rest of the world. a display of muscle, maybe.

I think they're doing it to prove they're macho. They like to play their silly little games and don't have anything better to do than stir up trouble.

i always thought it was fear...afraid that they might not have any power to "fight back" if they are attacked
maybe just a little self assurance and bragging rights to other countries
