Um, because they are NOT adults.

Society reserves some privileges and some punishments for adults because they are deemed to be mature enough to make decisions. A juvenile is not mature enough to fully comprehend the consequences of some actions, so they are prosecuted differently.

A better way to phrase your question would be to move the word some to before the word juveniles. Some juveniles deserve no mercy, they know exactly what they are doing and are well aware of the ramifications. But not all are. When you look back on your own life, can you reasonably say that decisions you made at age 10 or 11, were ones you would have made at 16, 18, or 20? Decisions we make in life are based on maturing thought processes that change as we experience life and see the consequences of previous decisions. For that reason alone, all juveniles cannot be tried as adults, some can be and are.

I can't really think of a reason or justify a difference when a crime is of hideous nature. Regardless of age; a criminal mind is a disturbed mind and sadly not much can be done about it. If the argument is that an adult can reason much better than a juvenile, then the fact that an adult has committed a crime negates that assumption doesn't it? If we had to distinguish; I think it should be a case by case judgment for anyone under sixteen, anything over that age should be tried in similar ways regardless of age. We always praise our young with how much they know in this day and age compared to past times, and it is true that they are learning faster. On the other hand, when they commit a crime, we coil back on that way of thinking and tend to relax the law and blame the parents; it is a complicated question and a good one....

I agree with "Henpecked", now a days many juvies think they are adults, try and act like adults, want to be treated as adults and they know the difference between "right and wrong", so they should be treated as adults in the justice system. I have seem many acting just the way I said, and when they get in trouble, they put on their puppy dog eyes and cry. Too bad, you do the crime, so you can do the time.

if your gonna argue that minors should not be tried as adults your gonna have to look at the circumstances of each case. it can't be a broad generalization. But one argument could be that because they are young they are unable to rational comprehend the full consequence of their actions. and they still have alot of growing up to do. This coming from a man who's cousin was the first Minor to be tried as an adult for 1st degree murder.

They be attentive to what's incorrect and correct we learn that on account that we are little. a pair of years are unlikely to be an excuse to understanding that in case you committed against the regulation fantastically if its a extreme one that that's incorrect. additionally its no longer trustworthy that on account which you're under 18 you will get a much less extreme punishment that a guy who committed the comparable crime at an older age.

I cannot think of any. Maybe the parents need to be held more accountable for their children's actions. Many kids have no discipline.

teenagers are more impulsive and reckless than adults, so if they do something stupid when they are teenagers, maybe they shouldn't be punished quite the same.

However, if they are horrible, maybe they should.
