Dude, cleaning twice a month is not nearly enough to keep a mouse cage from stinking. Tell you what, why don't you put a wad of newspapers in the corner of your living room and pee on it every morning. I would bet that after about two weeks it will smell worse than your mouse does.

You need to change the bedding every couple of days if you don't want it to stink. Twice a month is about right for giving the cage a thorough washing.

You need to clean the cage more then this. The critter hates it but that smell WILL bring in wild mice into your house! Hence why the smell to us is so bad, it is not to other mice....

Not a good pet if you do not like cleaning cages every weekend...

Try using cider chips instead of pine. Also, remove the tissue paper, it's holding in the smell. could try and change it's diet...could be something in it's food that your smelling at the END of it's cycle. Although I suggest paper pulp litter and use it in my Ferrets cage, I have a confetti paper shredder and I use that for the rat.. maybe try that. lol :)

It sounds like you aren't cleaning his cage often enough Joe. Once a week would be better, if not more often than that. And change his shavings and bedding etc every day.

Try taking out the tissues. They only make it smelly and don't cover the smell like the shavings will.

try using a different type of shavings, when i had a gerbal i used cedar shavings and never had a problem with them. and maybe it has something to do with the type of food your feeding him. plus you need to clean his cage more than twice a month, it needs to be done AT LEAST once a week.
