WOW..
You know I have to say I do agree with you.
In today's society, it seems it's okay to flush everything your parent's have taught you, away with the old school ways. And in with the rudeness, and disrespect.
I was just hoping I wasn't a dinosaur for teaching my children the same values that was taught to me, and my siblings.
My boy's sometimes get irratated when I say ..."be a gentleman" open, or hold the door for a lady.
Or when I tell my daughter... "it's not lady like" .. blah blah blah blah...
However, I'm hoping I'm teaching them the right things. To stand out and be different then society!
Good Luck, I hope you get good responses. I'm curious to read some of the answer's to this question.

I think that there has been an erosion of values which increases every year. I am a modern woman but I have traditional views on courtesy which I have tried to instill in my children. I appreciate good manners but sadly find it now something to be commented on as if it were unusual, rather than the norm. When I first worked in an office in my late teens, I found men opening doors for me quaint and amusing- now I think it's just lovely!

I think that this is the way this country (UK) is heading, people do not seem to have the time for each other and are on a selfish trip thinking more about themselves.
The next generation are not interested in pleasantries and have never been taught by their parents how to speak and be polite to other people and, since the introduction of sexual equality men don't think it is fair that they should hold the door for a woman as she could do the same for him.

Manners and courteous behavior has been taught to be bad things, that's why they went out the window.
Bad thing about it is that it took hundreds of years of civilization to teach these things and they were throw away in a couple of decades.
And considering ignorance is the norm now days it's a possibility they won't ever come back as they were before.

Yeah but it goes both ways, I hold doors open and never get a thank you, old people are actually the worst they expect people to get out of the way and nevr acknowledge the act or say thank you
